Sometimes, the precious gems are found in hole in the wall establishments. Basically, unsuspecting places that are not necessarily fancy, but I would say, down to Earth low-key vibes where the cooks have a job to make sure a place has a good reputation and that is to make the food really, really good!
If you like Filipino food, then feel free to try this blink and you’ll miss it kind of place. The locals appreciate it. It has been there for decades and, during lunch time, people do line up!
Walking inside, you see some tables and chairs and food behind glass that will start to make your stomach curious with hunger!
Overall, the atmosphere is basic, but the flavors are not! This is actually one of the better tasting Filipino establishments in Norfolk!
My meal of choice was the Pork Mechado. Probably, the best tasting Filipino Mechado I had around Hampton Roads. Tender pork, peppers, chickpeas and other things stewed up and ready to be served on top of white rice.
A great complement with the Mechado were pork spare ribs tenderly cooked and served with potatoes.
Overall, the flavors of the pork had a certain earthy taste but balanced well with the other flavors of potatoes and the chickpeas and the rice.
Also, the broth was not overwhelmingly salty but comforting to the taste!
Definitely Filipino comfort food! I highly recommend it! Delicious!
