Bacon with the right balance of salty and smoked flavor, but not overwhelming and with the right crisp, a fried egg not runny, but tender and soft to eat and bread lightly toasted holding together the cheese and butter that adds a punch of tastiness to a very not so average bacon, egg and cheese sandwich, these are the words to describe this delicious winner of a breakfast.
It was so savory, that me and my buddy had to go back for seconds. The guy who runs the place who makes them, Irwin's Fountain, thought we were kidding for the second request.
We were not! We were serious!! Because seriously, the sandwiches were that good! It's not too hard to make bacon great! But, ever had a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich from McDonald's that tasted bland?
Well, this sandwich that Irwin's provided felt like I was eating bacon for the very first time! All the flavors play their musical notes on key! The egg, the cheese, the butter, the sourdough bread, the bacon were all playing that musical symphony at the right pitch.
Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the sourdough bread version because I ate it all and that was the first sandwich. What you're seeing is the one on white bread which is as good!
My buddy was the one who made this request and it was the first time he visited Irwin's. It turned out it was a test because he made these sandwiches at home, but now, he was delighted to see that there's a place that makes them well enough for him to want to visit again.
